Visiting Mrs. B at Curtis

Ivy and I went to Curtis today to meet with the Director of Admissions and to take the requisite tour of the school, which was given by Shelby, a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic sixth grader.

We stopped at each classroom, met a few of the teachers and learned about the curriculum at each grade level. When we made it to the sixth grade classroom, I was ecstatic. I got another chance to visit my all time favorite teacher, Mrs. Marna Biederman, or Mrs. B as she is affectionately known. I think I last saw her nearly 25 years ago when I graduated.

WWE Smackdown!

My dad has always liked wrestling. He knows it's entertainment and not an actual sport, but for as long as I can remember, he'd always watch it on tv whenever it was on, on whatever channel and in whatever language.

As an early father's day present, I thought it would great to take him to see it live at the Staples Center. It was a blast seeing Chris Jericho, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Batista, Mysterio, and a bunch of other wrestlers actually going at it right in front of us and even in steel cages. There were even female wrestlers.

My dad loved it. He didn't leave his seat for the entire four hours that we were there.

Shelter for the Homeless

We attended a benefit for Shelter for the Homeless. The event was hosted by Adam Carolla and Wells Fargo was one of the major sponsors. Mayor Villaraigosa was honored as Man of the Year.

The night was fun. We won a few raffle prizes (KLH home theater speakers, a bucket of bolts), saw the Mayor, and managed a photo op with Adam Carolla.

All In

I was in Vegas Thursday and Friday for a conference. After our meeting and dinner at the Monte Carlo, I walked over to Paris and on the way back, stopped by the Aladdin for coffee at the 24 hour Starbucks.

I was walking out and noticed a sign for a 2am poker tourney. It was late, but after seeing it on tv, I couldn't resist.

The Final Table

I signed up and nearly four hours later, took second place to this clown sitting next to me.

Heads Up

My suited A-8 lost to his Q-6 as he caught a pair of sixes. He took home $760 to my $440 on a $60 buy-in.
